Beach-Club Shores

Shores whose identity is made by the establishments on them rather than by the sand. Music, design, service and the question of which club you are at matter more than coastal geology. Density is often low in this world, which surprises people: what defines it is the social organisation of the sand rather than the amount built on it. Concessions are licensed and seasonal in most of these places, dismantled each winter by law in at least one, and a free public section is legally required in several countries and is worth locating before paying. The sand underneath is frequently unremarkable, and the register says so where it is true rather than borrowing the reputation of what stands on it. Booking is effectively required at the better-known ones in July and August, often weeks ahead.
