Castaway Beaches

12 beaches

Remote, difficult to reach, and empty of building. What defines this world is the effort of arrival: a boat, a long walk, a permit, or a road that gives out. The beach itself may be spectacular or plain — what you are buying is the absence of everyone else. In practice this is the world where the register's access flags cluster: boat-only arrivals, permits, hike-in routes of an hour or more, and in one case a beach reachable only by swimming ashore from an anchored vessel. Facilities are almost always none, and the register says so plainly rather than implying that seclusion comes with a bar. Several of these beaches are also culturally significant or actively protected, and the difficulty of reaching them is part of why they have survived intact.

Not to be confused with

Against Palm-Fringed Island Beaches: those are defined by how they look, not by how hard they are to reach. Against Hidden Coves: a cove can be twenty minutes from a car park; a castaway beach cannot.
