Beaches in Colombia

2 beaches · 1 beach world

Coasts on two oceans. The Caribbean side runs from the Guajira desert through Tayrona's jungle coast to the Panamanian border; the Pacific side is one of the wettest places on earth, dark sand, and where humpbacks calve. The Caribbean coast holds almost all beach travel and is dry, sandy and increasingly busy; the Pacific coast is rainforest running into black sand, has almost no road access, and is where humpback whales calve between July and October. Tayrona national park on the Caribbean closes for several weeks each year at the request of the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada, for whom the territory is sacred — one of the few places where that authority determines access directly. Practicalities: Tayrona's entry is capped daily and requires a fee plus insurance, several beaches within it are signed against swimming because their currents have killed people, and the Caribbean coast's dry season runs December to April.

Both are palm-fringed island beaches. Together they account for 2.5 km of shore. · computed from the 2 records below
