Beaches in Goa

2 beaches · 1 beach world
A hundred kilometres of Indian coast divided sharply in two. North Goa has the nightlife, the markets and permanent development; south Goa has the longer, quieter beaches where structures on the sand are temporary by regulation — built each October and removed before the monsoon in May, so the beach that exists in January is bare sand in July. Olive ridley turtles nest on several southern beaches between November and March, with nests fenced and guarded by the forest department. The monsoon closes everything from June to September. Practicalities: the season runs November to April and everything on the sand is dismantled for the monsoon, so a beach photographed in January does not exist in July. Lifeguards patrol the main beaches and rip currents cause drownings every year. Amplified music on beaches is restricted after ten at night, which produced the headphone parties the state is now known for. Turtle nesting sections are fenced and lit restrictions apply between November and March.
Both are palm-fringed island beaches. The sand is golden sand throughout, and both are reached by road. Together they account for 4.6 km of shore. · computed from the 2 records below
