Accessible Beaches

9 beaches · 6 countries

Confirmed step-free routes and beach wheelchairs.

The shortest collection in the register, and the length is the finding. Confirmed step-free access to the water — matting across the sand, accessible changing and toilets, and beach wheelchairs available rather than theoretically existing — remains rare enough that this list is a handful of beaches worldwide. Where it exists it is generally the product of municipal policy rather than of a resort: Spanish, Israeli and Baltic municipalities have done more here than most of the tropics, and Dubai's public beaches are among the better-equipped anywhere. The register only records provision it can point to, and does not treat a ramp to a promenade as access to a beach. Anyone planning on this basis should confirm with the operator, because seasonal matting is removed out of season.

Not to be confused with

Against beaches with a paved promenade: a path along the back of the sand is not a route to the water, and the register keeps that distinction.
