Beaches in Monaco

1 beach · 1 beach world

Two kilometres of coastline in total, and almost none of it was naturally a beach. Larvotto, the country's only public beach, was created on reclaimed land in the 1960s and rebuilt between 2019 and 2021 with new submerged breakwaters and restored seagrass offshore. The principality established a marine reserve in 1976 and monitors its water closely. Land is the scarcest commodity here and the cost of the reconstruction reflects that. The season runs May to September, the water is warm from June to October, and the whole beach is a few minutes' walk from the casino. The principality's other public water is the Piscine du Port Hercule, an outdoor seawater pool that becomes an ice rink in winter. The Larvotto reserve offshore holds posidonia seagrass beds among the better-monitored in the Mediterranean, and the principality has protected these waters since 1976. Lifeguards and concessions operate from May to September on the single public beach.
